DHCP Client Updates in Windows 10 April 2018 Update

Windows-Based Devices Receive New Vendor Class Identifier

DHCP Client Enhancements Improve Device Identification

Microsoft has introduced a new DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) feature in the latest Windows 10 April 2018 Update. This update includes a new DHCP Client Vendor Class Identifier, which allows devices to more accurately identify themselves when connecting to a network.

Previously, Windows-based devices would all appear with the same Client Vendor Name and Vendor Class Identifier (MSFT 50). However, in the April 2018 Update, some Windows devices will now show up as "MSFT 50 XBOX." This change is intended to provide more specific identification for these devices, allowing DHCP servers to better configure their settings.

Additionally, the traditional Client Vendor Name has also been updated for some Windows-based devices. This value used to be simply "MSFT 50," but some devices will now show up as "MSFT 50 XBOX." This change is also intended to improve the accuracy of device identification on networks.

These DHCP Client updates are part of Microsoft's ongoing efforts to improve the stability and performance of Windows 10. By providing more accurate device identification, these updates help to ensure that devices can connect to networks and access resources securely and efficiently.
