Wanyama's International Career

Victor Wanyama, the former captain of the Kenyan national football team, has announced his retirement from international play. The 30-year-old midfielder made his debut for Kenya in 2007 and went on to earn 64 caps for his country, scoring 16 goals. Wanyama was a key member of the Kenyan team that reached the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final, where they lost to Algeria.

Wanyama's decision to retire from international football comes after a difficult few years with injuries. He has not played for Kenya since October 2020 and has been hampered by a series of knee problems.

Wanyama's Club Career

Wanyama began his club career with AFC Leopards in Kenya before moving to Europe in 2008. He has played for a number of clubs, including Celtic, Manchester City, Southampton, and Tottenham Hotspur. Wanyama has won two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups, and one EFL Cup during his time in the UK.

Wanyama was expected to be a squad player at Tottenham this season, but he has already moved on. He joined Montreal CF in Major League Soccer in March 2023.

Tottenham's Statement

Tottenham Hotspur released a statement on Wanyama's retirement, thanking him for his contributions to the club. The statement said: "We would like to thank Victor for his service to the club and wish him all the best in the future."
